Open Health Medical Communications attracts highly-qualified, passionate and creative professionals.  The team enjoys challenging convention, pushing the boundaries and delivering bespoke solutions in complex therapy areas.
Open Health Medical Communications has offices in Marlow, London and Newcastle.   While there is flat structure, there is the opportunity to work on interesting projects in a variety of therapy areas.  Sometimes there projects span across the OPEN Health family.

Key responsibilities
  • Take full responsibility for and manage the day-to-day delivery of all assigned editing / writing projects
  • Develop and deliver written materials in line with client requirements (internal/external), timelines, Open Health Medical Communications editorial policy, ABPI Code of Practice and key product messages
    • o To include editing as well as writing
  • Ensure all written material is:
    • o Appropriately pitched
    • o On brief when delivered
    • o Delivered on time
    • o Fully referenced and, where applicable, in accordance with the ABPI Code of Practice
  • Attend conferences and meetings
  • Coordinate effectively and efficiently with appropriate members of the Open Health Medical Communications team
  • Ensure the Open Health Medical Communications team is continually updated on project progress
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the various client brand and disease areas
  • Provide strategic input and direction (e.g. publication plans, consultancy) to clients, as needed
  • Develop relationships and interact with clients and key opinion leaders (clinical, industry, NHS), as appropriate
  • Agree review and feedback processes with clients / key opinion leaders
  • Undertake or direct research into therapy areas, as needed
  • Liaise with clients and key opinion leaders (including face-to-face meetings)
  • Provide support for all colleagues whose roles involve writing
  • Participate in the cross checking of editorial work written by other members of the writing team
  • Identification, liaison and management of freelance medical support, as required
  • Provide in-house editorial review of work undertaken by freelance writers
  • Advise on publishing activities
  • Support in new business initiatives, including attendance at pitches

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interpret and fulfil client briefs in a creative and technically accurate manner
  • Sound understanding of science and medicine, the healthcare environment and the Medical Education industry
  • Working knowledge of the publishing industry
  • Ability to seek out, critically appraise and appropriately cite published information

  • Willingness / ability to learn and apply new skills and new scientific / therapeutic / regulatory information

  • Plan, organise and complete multiple tasks and deal with changes in project timings and specifications

  • Able to produce documents in Word, PowerPoint and Excel to an advanced standard, and in compliance with the appropriate style guide (e.g. Open Health Medical Communications, client or external publisher)
