Brief description 

The Scientific Account Lead / Principal Medical Writer is a ranking member of the MedComms Editorial Team, managing content creation for MIMS MedComms print, digital and event solutions that meet the medical communications objectives of our pharma company- and healthcare professional-partners

Specific responsibilities

Content creation
  • Utilize scientific knowledge to produce a full spectrum of medcomms content, including symposium highlights, newsletters, detail aids, slide decks, journal article manuscripts, digital content, etc
  • Liaise with key opinion leaders in faculty management for events, symposia, roundtables and other meetings across a range of therapeutic areas
  • Facilitate discussions among key opinion leaders in advisory board or expert panel meetings
Management of content creation
  • Review output of Medical Writer(s) in his/her key account team(s) to add value and assure scientific accuracy, strategic alignment with the relevant client communications programs, and quality output that helps to build the scientific foundation for client brands
Training and coaching
  • Together with the MedComms Editorial Manager, educate Senior Medical Writers, Medical Writers and other colleagues in the country MedComms team on scientific aspects of assigned accounts, demonstrating a strong understanding of the relevant therapy area and market environment
  • Work with the MedComms Editorial Manager in coaching Medical Writers, focusing on imparting core writing, editing, client-engagement and KOL- engagement skills
Business development
  • Work with Business Managers and senior colleagues to expand current business by suggesting new projects/services
  • Work with Business Managers and senior colleagues to identify new business opportunities
  • Work with Business Managers on the development of proposals and, when required, attend and present at pitches
  • Provide day-to-day scientific expertise and guidance to Business Managers
KOL engagement
  • Cultivate strong relationships with KOL-partners from across all therapy areas by ensuring scientific rigor of all material/projects involving them
  • Engage the participation of KOL-partners in company projects and in the development/roll-out of company products & solutions within their area(s) of clinical/research/teaching interest
Client engagement
  • Analyze and assimilate market, therapy area and product information in order to provide consultancy advice to clients on product differentiation, positioning, and marketing strategy
  • Develop and write strategically-focused communication plans, including key messages that take into consideration product marketing goals and objectives, product positioning and brand vision
  • Cultivate strong relationships with client commercial and medical contacts through credibility demonstrated by medical marketing and medical communication knowledge and interpersonal consultancy skills
Minimum requirements
  • Graduate degree in the sciences (PhD, MSc); healthcare science degree a plus (MD, PharmD, BSc in nursing or allied profession)
  • At least 8 years’ experience working for a healthcare communications agency
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills – this is assessed on application
  • Proven ability in leading teams and coaching/mentoring individuals
  • Ability to distill complex scientific concepts into clear, concise messages
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
