About the Role:
The Principal Medical Writer will take an active role within Synergy, working to combine scientific writing with strategic insight in order to consistently deliver the best possible service for our clients. This role is traditionally aligned to one business unit working across multiple accounts, but also has the potential to be across multiple business units, exposed to a wide variety of client solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Write and manage delivery of scientific content for a range of medical communications activities that meet client needs, quality standards and timelines
• Builds and maintain strong relationships with clients and acts as a point of contact for day to day enquiries
• Contribute to strategy discussions, e.g. attend client strategy meetings and contribute ideas
• Efficiently and effectively manage projects
• Prepares and finalises expert briefing materials, clinical and scientific backgrounders, objection handling material, expert commentary and opinion pieces, consensus statements and scientific platform materials.Supports project teams with development of outlines for educational material and reviewing content produced. Documents must be of high quality in terms of scientific content, as well as organization per regulatory and internal guidance, clarity, and accuracy, with attention to format and consistency.
• Guides or trains cross-functional team members on processes, best practices; coaches or mentors more junior writers.
• Recognises how to best interpret, summarise and present statistical and medical information to ensure quality and accuracy of content in complex document types
• Responsible for establishing document timelines and strategies in accordance with internal processes, with guidance as needed
• Maintains and applies knowledge of industry, company, and regulatory guidelines
Skills and experience – essential vs. desirable:
Essential:
• A life science degree, ideally a master’s degree or PhD
• A minimum of 8 years’ medical writing experience
• Previous medical writing experience gained within a medical communications agency or scientific publishing environment
Desirable:
• Previous experience of line management and mentoring junior medical writers
• Proven ability to learn new therapy areas quickly
• Excellent attention to detail
